White House: a place for friends?

Online predators have stepped aside for the newest breed of social networker -- the president.

A recent blog post by the "Daily Randomness" reports that social networking via world wide web has apparently hit a new low.

After 200 years of living silence, the White House is alive -- and it wants to be your friend via Myspace:

Social networking has reached new heights. Its crazy how the White
House not a person, but a building, has profiles on many of the networking
sites. On MySpace, the white house has 175,532 friends.

Hmm..interesting concept mr. White House. Except for the only citizens of our country that utilize Myspace anymore are approximately thirteen years of age.

Day after day, the White House posts videos about the latest political breakthroughs and economic struggles. How does pre-teen America respond to the news you ask?

with such comments like:

i love the white house i been there before and it is so pretty! (:

..point proven.

  1. I actually think it's a good idea to have the White House on Myspace or Facebook. If they want to get the youth involved in politics and interested in the issues that are surfacing, what better way than to communicate through their level. Of course, I definitely see the point you made, referencing the comment that you posted. I don't think that commenting that the White House is pretty is what they were looking for, but what can you do.

It may reach some people and be a joke to others.

  2. i think this is another way for the white house and the government to brainwash their followers into what they want them to believe. The white house is wasting their time trying to win over teenagers who can't vote for any kind of election. Why have a myspace? for the teenagers to support the government? they don't know anything about the government except who the president is! the only reason they have a myspace is to look "cool" because they can't get anything else out of having friends on their profile.

yeah, its cool to follow the president on twitter and see what he's doing, but myspace is done for in the networking world.

  3. It was interesting to find the link to a certain blog post....:) But I think that it's a weird, yet good idea to have these social networking sites hosting pages for the white house. It just makes me feel like us as young adults are connected to the the currents of our world. I've heard too many times that older generations are worried about our generation since we don't read the newspaper or stay up to date on current events. These pages will help to keep us connected.
